Career Benefits of Professional Certifications

Career There has been an ongoing debate regarding the role professional certifications play in boosting ones career prospects. While professional certifications will not guarantee you a job or a promotion, they will certainly greatly improve your chances as study after study reveals. International best practice certifications as offered by Africa Value Solutions LTD (AVS) in Project Management, Information Technology, Occupational Health and Safety, Sales and Marketing, Management, Business Analysis as well as ISO will surely boost your career in many ways:

1.    Meet job specifications. Look in the job ads and find one that doesn’t specify having a professional certification as essential or desirable. How many did you find, truly go ahead and search. Even when not stated, certification is often a given, in fact some recruitment agencies won’t even consider you without them and some interviewers may wonder why you didn’t formalize your experience by tackling the training and the exams. Don’t give them the chance.

2.    Move from the academic to the real world. For undergraduates or graduates familiar with an academic environment, a professional certification could be your door to the real world as it tells employers that you’ve thought seriously about your career progression path and that you’re ready for business.

3.    Get your foot in the door – or get it open! Trying to get into certain high level careers can seem daunting even if you have employment experience. Put an International Best Practice Certification on your CV, though, and it says: I’m interested, I’m committed and I’m across everything that’s behind it and its application. It makes you more likely to be considered for any opportunity that fits you best: work experience, internship, associated role and for a trainee post.

4.    Go global with your job prospects. International Best Practice Certification can not only help open doors they can keep them open. If you’re a professional who has landed a job, professional certifications will give you the confidence to back up decisions when challenged; if you’d love to get that kind of job it’ll instill the competence and confidence to go for it. Most International Best Practice Certification are totally portable and acknowledged across the global job market. Think of it as one element of your back-up plan in case things don’t shape up as well as you’d like.

5.    Show employers you’ve still got it. Having International Best Practice Certification on your CV demonstrates that along with years of unbeatable experience you’ll be bringing potential employers today’s recognized best practices that improve project success and not yesterday’s tired and failed methods.

6.    Credibility for contractors. Freelance operatives are like mini companies and like all companies they have to sell themselves, their reputation and their skills. Much easier to do that with an International Best Practice Certification on your resume. It is evidence that you’re using a proven and consistent methodology that they can understand.

7.    Employers see International Best Practice Certifications as the safe bet. In times of crisis we all head for safety. For HR and training and development departments that means professional certifications. Faced with the need to spend less whilst still ensuring that staff get top-class training so they can deliver successfully, many see professional certifications as the de-facto requirements. Doubtless they have taken into account worldwide research demonstrating its benefits.

8.    Value for money employee. Ask yourself this: since training budgets are tight what will a company offering openings think if you turn up already trained ?

PRINCE2 Agile is the world’s most complete agile project management solution, combining the flexibility and responsiveness of agile with the clearly defined framework of PRINCE2.

PRINCE2 Agile is an extension module tailored for forward-thinking organizations and individuals already benefiting from PRINCE2. It provides further guidance on how to apply agile methods to the world’s most recognized project management method.

PRINCE2 Agile is supported by an exam and formal qualification and delivered by our accredited training providers. As with PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile can be applied to any type of project within any industry sector.

PRINCE2 Agile was developed in response to demand from our user communities and designed to help experienced PRINCE2 practitioners tailor management controls for agile development, while helping ‘agilistas’ understand PRINCE2 governance requirements.

Key benefits of PRINCE2 Agile for your career

  • Improved position in the job market and career progression within project and programme management by achieving the new PRINCE2 Agile qualification.
  • Recognized globally with an international qualification which demonstrates your ability to apply best practice approaches to managing any and every kind of project – no matter the size or scale.

  • Flexibility to work with both ever-evolving solutions and those that are clearly defined in detail.
  • Completing your PRINCE2 Agile qualification will earn you 15 continuing professional development (CPD) points towards a professional membership, maintaining your PRINCE2 qualification other than through re-sitting the exam.

  • The most up-to-date and relevant view of Agile project management methodologies, PRINCE2 Agile references the ‘flow-based’ working featured in Kanban in addition to other agile concepts not covered in other qualifications.
  • PRINCE2 Agile is available to qualified PRINCE2 Practitioners. The majority of PRINCE2 Agile guidance is new material and examines how PRINCE2 and agile methods can interact and be adapted to accommodate each other in order to benefit overall management of projects.

Target Audience

This qualification is aimed at Project Managers who hold a current PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification. It is also relevant to other key staff involved with integrating project management with product delivery. An understanding of the agile concepts within PRINCE2 Agile will also be beneficial to those with governance responsibilities for projects using agile delivery approaches as well as those involved with programme and project support functions.

Initially in order to sit the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner examination you must hold a current PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification.

Benefits of Professional Certifications

Several survey results find that over 90% of respondents agree that, “Formal Professional Qualifications are valuable in terms of skills and career development.” Gaining a professional certification is a step that sets you apart – that benchmarks your knowledge in a recognized way.

Is it simply that you are more likely to get a good job in the first place by having qualifications on your CV? In which case what if you are already in a good job? Do you still need to think about taking further qualifications? We think you do.

Even if you are currently a skilled, qualified, and experienced expert there is no way you can know what is going to happen in your company, or in your industry, over the coming years. Your job may not even exist in its current form.

The truth is we don’t know what the future has in store for us, but we can rely on change to happen; so how do you future proof yourself and ensure that your skills are still relevant in five, ten or twenty years from now?

Everyone needs to invest in themselves, (or even better, have their employer invest in them) by taking training and becoming qualified in new or specialist areas. Find out about the latest innovations, skills and techniques; learn about the current thinking and new developments in various disciplines such as Project Management, IT Service Management and Governance, International Standards and beyond. Formal Professional Qualifications are an opportunity to be a driver of the new ways, to be a leader not a follower, and to design your own career path in the direction you want to take.

There are so many qualifications to choose from, and yet surprisingly, almost 40% of respondents to surveys think there is a gap in the market for more specialized qualification. That may well be the case, but it does lead us to ask the question, do people know about the depth and variety of business qualifications currently out there? Probably not.

If you care about your career and want to stay ahead of the game in terms of skills, take a look through the professional courses currently offered by Africa Value Solutions LTD (AVS) and find out about our extensive range of qualifications.

Have a look, make your choice, book the course, and take control of your career.
